在金屬加工領域中,石化產品的加工潤滑劑是為歷史最久,最被廣泛使用。石化產品在加工的使用中分為油基(純油)和水基(微乳化油);其中油基注重潤滑,多用於難加工、難切削,而水基注重降溫,有利於加工速率。
In the metalworking field, petrochemical lubricants have the longest history and are the most widely used. Petrochemical products are categorized into oil-based (pure oil) and water-based (microemulsified oil) for processing. Oil-based products prioritize lubrication and are often used in difficult-to-machine and hard-to-cut applications, while water-based products prioritize cooling, which is beneficial for machining speed.

近年來全合成切削液在較輕金屬加工也逐漸使用開來,但全合成由於需使用硫,氯極壓劑,對人體的傷害及環境的衝擊相較石化產品也是不遑多讓。
In recent years, fully synthetic cutting fluids have gradually been used in the machining of lighter metals. However, because fully synthetic fluids require the use of sulfur and chlorine extreme pressure agents, their harm to human health and environmental impact are comparable to those of petrochemical products.
